Injury to the lower neck and upper back, the part of the body that creates a supportive structure for your head to sit on, is the most common cause of neck pain. Neck pain occurs when the neck or upper back vertebra, discs, nerves or spinal cord itself is disrupted by injury or disease, causing the supportive system to crumble. The pain itself can be localized or may be deferred to areas down the arm(s).
Injuries to the neck and upper back include strain/sprain, bulges, herniations, whiplash, nerve impingement, muscle spasms, sciatica, nerve impingement, degenerative disc disease and arthritis.
The chiropractic physician’s goals with all treatment are to reduce pain, restore normal joint function and improve muscle function. Chiropractic care helps the body to heal itself and prevent future injury.
